⭐️ Free ⭐️ Birth Companion & Advocacy Support for POC, Vulnerable & Minority Communities in the Forest of Dean (Copy)

Becoming a parent is a big moment

— and everyone deserves support, safety, and respect.

Each month, I’m offering one free Doula (Birth Companion) & Advocacy place
for someone in the Forest of Dean from a minority or migrant community

Such as:

Single Parents, Gypsy’s & Travellers, Romanian, Indian, Polish, Zimbabwean,
and refugee/asylum-seeking families.

What is a Doula (Birth Companion)?

A Doula, also called a Birth Companion,
is someone who provides emotional, practical, and informational support
throughout pregnancy, birth, and the early days with your baby.

I’m not a midwife or doctor
— I don’t do medical tasks —
but I walk beside you so you feel heard,
informed, and confident
in your choices.

Here’s how I can help:

Before birth:

• Help you understand your birth options and make a plan that feels right for you.
• Attend appointments with you (if you wish) to help with communication or translation.
• Talk through any worries and help you prepare for labour and early parenting.

During labour and birth:

• Stay with you continuously — whether at home or hospital — offering calm reassurance, massage, breathing support, and practical help for your partner.
• Help you express your wishes to staff and feel in control of decisions.

After birth:

• Support with rest, feeding (breast or bottle), using a sling, baby care, and emotional recovery.
• Link you with trusted local services and community groups.

What does Advocacy mean?

Advocacy means helping your voice to be heard.
If English isn’t your first language or you find it difficult to ask for what you need, I can:

  • Explain hospital or midwife information in simple language

  • Help you write questions or letters to your care team

  • Support you in understanding your rights and choices

Who can apply?

Anyone pregnant and living in the Forest of Dean area,
from a minority community or with other disadvantage:

Gypsy’s & Travellers, Romanian, Indian, Polish, Zimbabwean,
refugee/asylum-seeking families, single parent families,
physical disabilities, and mental health conditions.

If you have little family nearby,
are on a low income,
or need help understanding the maternity system
— this free place is for you.

Why I’m offering this

I believe everyone deserves to feel safe and supported during birth
— not just those who can afford it or who speak fluent English.

In my work as a Doula, I’ve seen how small acts of support
— a calm presence, clear explanations, a friendly face
— can make a huge difference.
