Promotional flyer for a four-week online course titled 'Birth on Your Terms' with Emma Gleave, focusing on discernment, self-responsibility, and navigating a broken maternity system. The flyer features a woman outdoors by a river with trees in the background and has a watercolor green and pink floral design.

You know the system isn’t working
—but walking away might not feel safe either

Having. discernment—or “just say no” if you don’t want something—can sound simple.

Until you are sitting in an antenatal appointment or in labour and suddenly it feels as though there really aren’t any other choices.

But choice rarely disappears all at once.

Authority is gradually transferred through a series of small, apparently harmless moments:

“Now it’s time for you blood test” “We’re just going to…”“Can I just get you to pop up on the bed…”

Your brain doesn’t even register a decision to make - you’re in compliance mode. So by the time you are facing a major decision, considerable momentum may already have been created.

You may understand your ‘options’ perfectly in theory
—yet find yourself agreeing while something deep inside you is saying, Wait.

This doesn’t mean you are weak, uninformed or incapable.

It means you are human.

We are deeply influenced by professional authority, social conformity, fear, approval and the behaviour of the people around us.

But just as authority can be surrendered gradually, it can be reclaimed gradually too.

What women experienced in the masterclass

“I really enjoyed the embodiment exercises. The statements you read out really hit home and helped me process where I am putting my trust.”

“I loved the ideas you gave us for building our autonomy muscles.”

“I loved the video. I had no idea so many people conform to authority in that way.”

“I liked reflecting on the decisions I make in my life and in my maternity care—and how I feel about making choices that other people disapprove of. It was really enlightening. This is going to be a game changer.”

This is a four-week online journey for pregnant women and their partners, who want to understand their choices, use maternity care when it serves them and feel confident questioning, waiting, insisting or declining.

We will explore:

  • How self-responsibility & clinical responsibility create tension in the birth room.

  • Recognising power dynamics even when its dressed up as care.

  • The real meaning behind the language of “we’re just going to… ” or “can I just get you to…” and how to deal with it.

  • Practical ways to prepare yourself before interacting with the medical system.

  • Why discernment & self-responsible do not always mean saying no.

  • How the media polarisation of medical vs natural is harming us.

  • How to work collaboratively with midwives & Dr’s without surrendering your authority.

  • How to prepare for difficult conversations before labour.

You are going to leave with real practical tools, important language,
greater clarity and a stronger sense of your own authority.

Your course includes

  • Four live 90-minute online sessions

  • Access to all session recordings

You don’t have to become your own obstetrician or midwife.

You don’t have to have all the answers.

And you definitely don’t have to navigate pregnancy and birth alone.

You can welcome knowledge, expertise and support without handing over ownership of your body or your decisions.

In the first masterclass I taught you how to begin to recognise the pattern.

In the course we will break free from it

—one small choice at a time.
